Create a MIRC Case

The following is an overview of the features of the RadPix MIRC Authoring program. The program is started by selecting Program Files / RadPix / RadPix MIRC Authoring Tool from the Windows Start menu, or by using a shortcut created for this purpose. The completed case can then be uploaded to a RSNA MIRC server. The fields are edited by clicking on the white area, and then a text editor window appears.

Patient Info Tab

Patient information
  • History
  • Abstract - Displayed in MIRC search results
  • Keywords - Information entered into this field is not visible when the case is displayed in a MIRC server. This can be used to categorize cases by a user or group.
  • Patient Information - The patient ID, Name, age, and gender can be entered in this section. They are only visible to the owner of the MIRC document. This information will be present in a separate tab, Private Notes, which is only visible to the document owner.


Case Tab

  • Findings
  • Diagnosis
  • Differential Diagnosis - Best used with an unordered list - when creating, look at the toolbar to create.
  • Pathology
  • Discussion
  • Private Notes - Only visible to MIRC document owner / creator
  • References - Enter 1 at a time by clicking on the Add button. Tip : Use hyperlink as needed for web links.


Categories Tab

Categories
  • Title - Displays in MIRC document search results
  • Alternate title - Displays when "Display as Unknown checkbox is checked in the MIRC Query page.
  • Difficulty level
  • Modality
  • Anatomy - Click Select anatomy to select RadLex anatomy terms
  • Subspecialty - Note : For each subspecialty that is checked, the adminsitrator for that subspecialty also has owner privileges, unless the case is saved as owner only - see Access Tab below.


Images Tab

Images

  • Image Title - Text field is displayed above image when viewing MIRC case in a browser
  • Image Caption - Displayed when use clicks "more" link above image when viewing MIRC case in a browser. Can be used to highlight findings on an individual image. Tip : Keep it short!
  • Edit Src Image button - Changes the source image for the case. When clicked, the image will open up in the Annotation tool. Can be used to remove patient information from original image by using black rectangle and drawing over the image.
  • Move Image button - Move Images up and down in order by clicking arrows
  • Annotate button - Click to open image in Anotation tool. When an image is annotated and uploaded to a MIRC server, an annotation button will be present, which when clicked, toggles the annotated image with the original image.
  • Delete button - Deletes image


Files Tab

Files
  • Embedded Video Files - AVI, MPG, MOV video files can be added with Drag and Drop of the file or by clicking the Click to Add Files button.
  • Linked Files - Other types of files can be added, such as Flash, Excel, PDF, etc. These files then become part of the MIRC case, and can be downloaded when the MIRC case is viewed.
  • PowerPoint Files - PowerPoint (PPT, PPS) files can be added with Drag and Drop of the file or by clicking the Click to Add Files button.


Custom Tab

Custom
  • Custom fields can be added as needed, as in this case where "Laboratory" has been added. It will then show up as a separate tab when the MIRC document is displayed in a browser.


Quiz Tab

Quiz
  • Questions, answers and responses to the answers can be added, which add some interactivity to a MIRC case. Currently, there is no way to save responses. Someday, this could be used for testing.


Access Tab

Access
  • Owner - Select document owner by clicking appropriate name. Enter Password in box below.
  • Other Owners - Other users can be assigned as owners of the document by clicking names as needed.
  • Proxy Creator - Can be used to have a secretary or assistant create cases, and assign the ownership to others. This proxy creators' name is saved in the MIRC document, but hidden from viewing. A password is needed for this section also.
  • Access Level
    • Read - Access to the case is determined by clicking appropriate radio button
    • Export - Allows the entire case to be exported via the Document tab, Export button when viewing the case in a browser.
